ABOUT GREENWOODS

History

A nonprofit organization, Greenwoods was inspired by programs that bring together volunteer health-care professionals to provide for the working poor, uninsured and under insured.
Our organization was founded in 1992 by The Rev. W. David Dobbins, Jr. A  Litchfield County minister, Dobbins saw how difficult it was for people in crisis to find their way to the right professional for help. In response to this need, he built a carefully screened network of doctors, therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists and other health-care professionals willing to see clients regardless of their social background or ability to pay. Over the years the Greenwoods network has expanded to include social workers, attorneys and other experts who can help with problems affecting individuals, families, children and the elderly. For more information, see About Our Providers.
Although Greenwoods was founded by a minister, we are not affiliated with any church or religious group.

We want to especially acknowledge the many gifts of support and good will bestowed on Greenwoods by St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Litchfield.  Over the years they have been generous beyond words.  We have been fortunate to have our offices in their parish house, access to their wonderful facility for meetings, their responsiveness to our needs in ways that go above and beyond all expectations.  All of this is not to mention how much we enjoy the collegiality of their parishioners and staff who share a mission to reach out to the community and care for our neighbors.  We are grateful and blessed.

Development of the website has been supported in part by a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut.
